Hey There, I’m Vlad 👋

If you want to know about me as a human being, this is the page for just that purpose. However, you might instead be looking for my projects or ways we can work together. This page is essentially like my personal Instagram account, but in text. :D

The things that have interested me most strongly are graphics programming and maths. In fact, I started teaching myself to program when I was 12 so that I could create stunning virtual worlds that would be more aesthetically pleasing than I found the real world to be. My interest in maths followed naturally from here since computer graphics required a lot of maths and because maths sat really well with my idealism and appreciation of perfect forms (in the Platonic sense).

In my teenage years, from 12 to 18 years of age, I had plenty of free time to explore what interested me and teach myself some really useful skills. As a result I achieved fluency in English (which is not my native language, unfortunately) and proficiency with all things related to computers—from general computer literacy to being comfortable in the Unix command line or with raw pointers in C. I also spent a lot of time researching ancient cultures, like Ancient Greece and India. It wasn’t the history that interested me, but how people lived, what they thought, and how they viewed the world.

Then I went to university, which significantly swayed my focus towards more purely mathematical pursuits. I didn’t write a lot of code in the four years I spent studying, but still, there are a couple of projects that emerged out of the intellectual environment I was fortunate to enjoy there. Among them is the string simulator I wrote in C while taking a class in partial differential equations.

If you are wondering what kind of mathematics I did during my undergrad, my bachelor’s thesis was in general topology, closely related to the works of Edward Collingwood and Arthur J. Lohwater.
